Gmail

You can set up an SMTP server using Gmail in two simple steps:

  1. Enable 2FA verification (on Gmail)
    2FA (two-factor authentication) is a multifactor authentication method that improves access security by verifying users.

  2. Create an “App password”
    An auto-generated password to secure your app.

Enabling 2FA

  1. Open your google account settings, you can use this link https://myaccount.google.com

  2. Click on the security option

  3. Enable 2-Step verification

  1. Click on the “App passwords” option (right below the 2-Step verification

  2. You may be asked to re-enter your google password, proceed

  3. Click on the “Select app” drop-down menu

  4. Select the “Custom” option

     

  5. Choose a name for your app

     

  6. Click on the “Generate” button

  7. Make sure to copy the value of the generated password and save it (you will not be able to retrieve this password if you lose it)

     

  8. Click on the “Done” button

That is it! Now you can use your App password and email address to customize your email communication.

Hint: The port number for Gmail SMTP is 587.
